While on the Internet searching for a dog to rescue in the summer of 2005 we stumbled onto a web site called Soi Dog Rescue, an organization that saves dogs from the streets of Bangkok, Thailand. Soi means “street” in Thai; hundreds of thousands of stray dogs and cats exist and struggle to survive horrifying conditions in Bangkok. Soi Dog Rescue was founded in 2002 by a group of caring individuals who strive to improve the lives of Bangkok’s stray dogs through spay/neuter, educational and adoption programs.
We saw a photo of a young pup named Cookie and instantly knew she was our little girl. Cookie (we renamed her Thai) flew from Bangkok to Amsterdam, where she was stranded for four days because the airline lost her paperwork. She then flew to Boston to begin her new life with us. Thai immediately became a part of our family and has become like a daughter to Molly.
Thai loves to run and play with dogs but has struggled to lose her fear of strangers. Since she was born on the streets and quickly learned to stay away from people as a survival technique, it has been a labor of love for us to integrate our friends and family into her life. She has made amazing progress and is thriving in her new role as The Newest Decadent Dog. We love her silliness, her cuddliness and especially the way she and Molly interact together. We are so proud of “Daddy’s Little Peanut” and hope to rescue another Soi Dog again in the near future.
