Our NEADS Puppy
 Last year we made the decision to focus our charitable contributions and activities for one organization. After meeting the people from NEADS it became clear that our goal was to help support their mission.
NEADS (Dogs For Deaf and Disabled Americans) is a non-profit organization established to train and provide rescued dogs and donated puppies to assist people who are deaf or physically disabled in leading more independent lives at work, at home and at school. These assistance dogs become an extension of their owners and bring security, freedom, independence and relief from social isolation to their human partners.
NEADS is the oldest continuing hearing dog program in the country and the only program of its kind in New England, as well as one of the country's largest.
 NEADS has trained well over 1000 assistance dog teams from all states since 1976. Puppies must complete a six-month training cycle to be ready to assist their human partners. Any dog "with the right stuff" can partner with a person to provide independence and companionship by reducing physical and social barriers.
We decided to sponsor a puppy in the name of one of our departed canine friends in the hope that his or her namesake would live on in service to a deserving person. We received word in mid May that MINA had begun her training regimen! Photos of the new pup are here as well as a photo of our friend Mina who left us on May 1, 2007. She was a special girl and we’re so proud to be able to help NEADS in her honor. We’ll be updating this page as puppy Mina moves through her training so keep checking in on her!
